Exceptional sale: 1.8 million euros for prestigious wines from Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

A historic auction for the 300 years of the Bordeaux estate

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, the wine-growing jewel of the Médoc, celebrated its tercentenary in style. An exceptional auction organized by the Swiss house Baghera Wines raised the impressive sum of 1.8 million euros. Rare and coveted lots

Among the centerpieces of this sale, two barrels particularly attracted the attention of enthusiasts:

• A 225 liter barrel from the 2022 vintage, sold to 54,900 euros
• A barrel from the 2023 vintage, sold for 46,360 euros

These two lots exceeded low estimates, demonstrating the enthusiasm of collectors for these exceptional wines.

Another lot caused a sensation: six bottles of the 1953 vintage found buyers for the sum of 36,600 euros. This acquisition illustrates the inestimable value of the great old wines from this renowned terroir.

A unique collection put up for auction

The sale highlighted more than 4,000 vials of this Grand Cru Classé, divided into 603 distinct lots. From the simple bottle to the complete barrel, the range offered makes it possible to satisfy all buyer profiles. The ten most popular lots alone totaled 300,000 euros, highlighting the exceptional quality of this selection.

Perfect preservation guarantees excellence

One of the major assets of this sale lay in the provenance of the wines. All vintages offered, covering a period from 1887 to 2023, had never left the Médoquine property. This particularity guaranteed optimal conservation, a guarantee of quality for future buyers.

Ducru-Beaucaillou, a world reference

The Ducru-Beaucaillou castle, which extends over 105 hectares in Saint-Julien-Beychevelle, is not unknown in the world of wine. Robert Parker, internationally renowned wine critic, described it as “one of the most successful properties in Bordeaux”. This reputation is not usurped, as evidenced by the success of this auction.

Baghera Wines: expertise at the service of great wines

The Geneva house Baghera Wines, responsible for organizing this event, is not its first attempt. In 2018, she orchestrated the largest wine auction in the world, with Burgundy vintages from the famous winemaker Henri Jayer. This sale then brought in more than 34.5 million Swiss francs, or around 31.5 million euros.
