This release of grain whisky from Japan’s Nikka is produced mainly from corn using one of their continuous Coffey stills. Rather than the rare and limited releases the company has released in the past, this is a larger release to further show off this key component in the Nikka family of whiskies. Not just an academic exercise, though – this is a grain whisky that more than stands up as a superb dram on its own.

Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt.
This is a blended malt named after Nikka’s founder Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky. He is the first Japanese who mastered whisky-making in Scotland and brought this expertise back to Japan. While being a disciplined craftman, Masataka was also a person of curiosity and open-mindedness.

This whisky has been inspired by his personality to showcase an exquisite balance between elegant softness and deep complexity.
