Modern Art in the spotlight under the hammer of the ivory group

The year begins under the sign of the modern art in the ivory group, which announced the sale of a very nice Lyon collection of modern art and decorative arts including in Lyon on 27 and 29 January and a beautiful work of François Morellet in Nantes on 30 January all these works have in common an interesting provenance.

100 paintings of the greatest artists of the 20th auction

It's in 1960 the collection began. Lyon painting of the end of the nineteenth century has been the anchor of this collection, which later evolved into the modern art (Léopold Survage with "City by the sea" of 1916, André Lhote…), Surrealism (Man Ray) to move towards the new x realistic (Mimmo Rotella, Alain Jacquet, Caesar). Interest of the collector is also credited to the Fluxus Movement by buying works by the french Robert Filliou, and German representatives of the movement such as Joseph Beuys and Wolf Vostell ourselves in this sale. A beautiful oil painting of Bernard Buffet "Clown Strawberry" signed and dated 1998, and are not part of the Lyon collection described previously, will complete the sale of 27 January (estimated 100.000/150.000€). A sale that highlights the decorative arts 

The collection also includes pieces of decorative arts of the 20th century, which testify to the revival of the art of tapestry in France in 40 years. Found in this set of tapestries of Marcel Gromaire, Jean Lurçat, Jean Picart-Ledoux and a declination of Victor Vasarely kinetic patterns with the Aubusson tapestry woven by Tabard siblings Vega-Sakk. Several ceramics to the geometric shapes and sleek Georges Jouve will also be proposed in the devoted to decorative arts sale on January 29, including a mirror 'Bowl' and very graphic vase enamelled yellow "puck". A very beautiful piece of François Morellet in Nantes

At ivory Nantes, a table dated François Morellet's 1991 will be offered at auction for the January auction. The work had been offered by the artist to the parents of the current owner for 45 years of marriage.  François Morellet is an emblematic figure of geometric abstraction, conceptual power of the post-war period. Born in 1926, he spent all his life in Cholet, his hometown, in the Maine-et-Loire. His career is very odd.
